Special Programs at Dinosaur State Park

Throughout the year, Dinosaur State Park schedules special programs that feature topics related to the park, natural history and dinosaurs will be scheduled. The public is welcome and admission is usually free with park admission.  Activities at Dinosaur State Park are family-oriented. Check the schedule often for events that are added.

JANUARY

FEBRUARY

APRIL - Dinosaur State Park resumes Tuesday through Sunday schedule, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Early April - Mining activity reopens, weather permitting.

Saturday, April 8 - Sunday, April 16 - School Vacation Week activities include animal programs, track talks, films and crafts. (Park is closed on Monday, April 10.)

Wednesday, April 12 - Riverside Reptiles presents two live animal programs. At 11 a.m, Snakes will be featured. At 1 p.m., the program will cover Reptiles and Amphibians. Each program will last 45 minutes and is free with park admission.

Thursday, April 13 - Tom Ricardi of Massachusetts Birds of Prey will present a live bird program featuring 5 or more birds. The program will last 45 minutes and is free with park admission.

MAY - Track Casting area reopens May 1.

JUNE -

Saturday, June 3 - At 1 p.m, there will be a Connecticut Trails Day Hike that focuses on Connecticut Geology. All participants will receive a free geologic specimen. No registration is necessary. Inclement weather cancels. Please, no dogs.

Saturday, June 10 - Connecticut Open House Day. There will be free admission all day.

JULY -

Wednesday, July 26 - From 1 p.m. - 2:30, join the CT Forest and Park Association (CFPA) Ramble: In the the Tracks of Dinosaurs. Hosted by the park, the 1.5 mile hike is suitable for families, seniors and out-of-shape hikers as well as those who enjoy spending a lot of time in the woods. Most of the terrain is flat or gently sloped, but there are rocks on the trail, so sturdy sneakers or boots are recommended. No dogs, please. Parking and the hike are free. (There is a fee to enter the museum.) Reservations are recommended. (In case of heavy rain, the hike will be held on July 27.) Thursday, December 28 - Saturday, December 30 - School Vacation Week activities include animal programs, track talks, films and craft activities.

Thursday, December 28 - A 45-minute program, Ancient Reptiles, will feature live crocodilians and turtles. Attendance is limited to 100 visitors. Tickets are available free with admission beginning at 9 a.m. on the day of the show.
